DESCRIPTION: This course will be useful to anyone wanting to improve their practical knowledge of English sounds and some of the major ways to represent those sounds in writing. Originally we designed and printed 44 cards to teach Japanese children the sounds of English and common spellings of those sounds. Each card has a picture on the front, and a group of spellings on the back. Each picture acts as a mnemonic cue for one sound of English. The spellings on the back show common spellings for each card's sound. This course allows students to practice and make progress without a teacher always being present. Students can learn the name of each picture with its related sound and spellings.

The series is arranged such that each set (e.g., Set 0) is introduced in isolation from the other sets, but then incorporated into a cumulative review. The cumulative review sets occur following the introduction of each new set and covers all previous learned facts regardless of the operation.
